I battle with a bit of depression which has been thus far kiling my productivity. BUT NOT SO TODAY! I've got a used chloe sent to me by her new ( and despairing) owner. Poor dear's stringing was an absolute mess. There was hot glue holding a section together, three knots, and so tight that she couldn't stand. I had to literally cut the string apart to get her out of it. She's soaking for a bath now. I can't wait to get her all clean. I love making people happy with their dolls! Here's some pictures of her arrival under the cut

And now I'm off to make my new baby boy a raglan shirt and some argyle shorts. X3 I'll have pictures of him and Mischief later!~ <3

What a horror story! I've never seen a Minifee in that bad of a shape. Poor doll has chips missing in so many places... :o Too tight stringing can do a lot of damage but this is something new... o_o I guess the previous owner had no idea how to sting a doll and was too lazy to even look it up or anything.

Speaking of horrible scratched/chipped dolls, my 65cm DZ body has pretty horrible marks in it too, but they're mostly from too long hooks that DZ used. Luckily all the scratches are on the inner parts and thus not visible, and the problem was easily solved by modifying the hooks a bit so they won't dig into the resin. I guess this is the first occasion I've seen/heard of where the "cheapness" of DZ is actually comes up. :P

yeah the commissioner was understandably upset that her supposed to be like new doll arrived like that. the doll, post the first round of scrubbing, was visibly lighter and less dingy. It was horrifying to see the water too, but I didn't get pictures of it. i think it was just flat out lack of care about it from the previous owner.

Loongsoul had some GHASTLY hooks in it. like.. little evil clippies of doom. I replaced them with some hooks from mint on card. I don't honestly get the "cheapy" vibe from a lot of more affordable companies. My loongsoul body cost the same as my previously owned soom gem body and THE ENGINEERING!! -dies- He can crouch, unaided, in a tree. Steady as a rock. Same with grass. He can hold up just about whatever I want him to hold up. My Gem was lucky if it could stand. @_@

For some reason in Finnish BJD circles DZ at least used the be as hated as Resinsoul, but DZ has gotten a bit better reputation after they started releasing a bit more realistic sculpts. The most usual complaint I've heard to be said of cheap doll companies is that the resin is very plastic-like. Well of course, because it's not pure French resin (very few companies use that anyway), and making the dolls gets a lot cheaper when the company mixes plastic into the resin, but I've never seen it actually make any kind of significant difference otherwise. So yeah. :P The "it's a cheap company so it's bad, eww!" excuse just doesn't have any valid ground under it.

In a few meet-ups I've gotten around to try and pose Soom dolls, and the Gem bodies are probably the worst posing bodies I've ever seen. No wonder most photos of Soom dolls all around the net usually feature the doll just standing or leaning with a really simple pose. Yet people adore them so much just because they are visually quite beautiful, and because they are the Soom brand. >_> To be fair, I am planning on getting Soom Gem Dia sometime in the future. I only need the head though, as I'm planning to get a Spirit Doll body for it, but finding just the head is pretty much impossible. Don't know what I'll do with the Gem body then (maybe sell it if anyone in the world is willing to buy it), but most likely I won't have much use for it as it can't pose at all, and I need my dolls to be able to pose.

that's one of the reasons I ended up not getting a Dia boy that I wanted was because they don't sell separately. @_@ I've got two asleep eidolons and they've actually got this fantastic smooth and nice feeling resin. Doesn't feel plastic-y at all and even unsealed it's pretty matte. my JID is shiny as all get out.. @_@

there's a lot of separatism in the hobby, I find. I've got a B-line minifee that's not one of the Big Three (chloe, Rheia, Shushu) and thus I get NO attention. Which is the opposite of the hobby when I started!! I've got an El. DIME A DOZEN they cried, and no one looked at pictures. Whut. XD I can't win! and then someone took a picture of a b line sitting down and went "well, there, that's all they can do." Uhh.. My girl can stand, bent over, on one foot. Pretty darn impressive to me! XD

Oh so true. Hell, I have a Shushu that doesn't get any of the "Omg Minifee Shushu!" attention because she's never had the Fairyland's official faceup and a few people have said they can't believe it's the Shushu sculpt because the faceup makes her look so different. She is B-line too, and so far she hasn't disappointed me with her posing abilities. She balances so well and is the easiest one of my dolls to pose for a "walking" photo.

The separatism is just getting worse and worse, couple of years ago it was bad if you didn't have the doll from the right companies, nowadays if it's not the right sculpt, no ones interested. Unless the doll manages to wow them otherwise.

Oh dear, I feel like I'm starting to sound bitter. >_> To sprinkle a little lovely on top of all this rant; there are still awesome, talented, open-minded people in this hobby, and it's really wonderful when you find someone who shares the same passion and love, and is willing to rant with you about the awful sides of the said hobby! XD

Oh totally willing to rant. I'm getting hope restored. Thanks so much. I feel a lot better about her cancelling on my faceup now. after all, my style isn't company style or andreja. (she does lovely work but there's that dreaded sameness.XD) and I did still get paid for my cleaning services. and I got this doll shiny clean, thank goodness. (my eraser is an ugly grey shade now....)

it's hard not to be bitter sometimes. But i'm trying to remember that I'm in the hobby for me. My dolls are lovely and I'll get even better at faceups and catch someone off guard one day. X3

Oh yes, I was just about to go to the other entry to ask more about that faceup situation of yours! LJ can be such a hassle to keep up with conversations.

Good thing you at least got paid for the cleaning, but I still can't understand why on earth didn't they check your work well enough to decide if they really do want the face-up to be done by you or not. I would never imagine sending my doll to someone first and then later on looking up what is their faceup style, then saying that I don't want them to do the faceup at all. Seems really ridiculous. .__. Especially since your faceups really are well made, clean and overall lovely!

-wibbing a little bit- thank you! I've been feeling a bit bad about them, to be honest. I do want to improve, so I'll be working on that, as always, but I was just shocked. I even offered half priced because her previous face-up was too dirty to be salvaged and scratched from the headcap being loose during shipment. She said yes, told me the style faceup and was so excited... and then she asked for more pictures and went "oh... no. just refund me, please." and I was like. OUCH ok. -sends money, pokes at face-ups with a stick. I just was like "How rude..." I'm not sure what kind of feedback i'm gunna leave. She keeps saying yes, this. oh wait no. YES no. OK. Maybe. But at least she's fast with conversation and stuff.

That is just plain weird. o__o I think it's fair to mention in the feedback that they suddenly changed their mind completely about the faceup, but of course also mention the good things about fast communication and getting paid for the cleaning work you did. It would have been absolutely awful if they wouldn't have paid you at all!

Oh I require payment beforehand now because of flakers. Give me half or give me full, because I'm not giving you a slot otherwise. XD I will definitely mention it. It hurts too because she posted in the Minifee Discussion thread that I was doing the faceup and then immediately asked about another artist.... ouchouchouch!!
